Kenna is a Gaelic word meaning “born of fire,” an appropriate name for the unique flavors delivered by cooking food in an anthracite coal fired oven that can reach temperatures of up to 1,000 degrees. We use only the freshest ingredients and hand prep and create everything we serve. All of our vegetables are hand cut and roasted in the oven. We prepare all of our dough from scratch and bake fresh hoagies daily. When we say fresh, we mean fresh! There isn’t even a freezer in the restaurant, and how many restaurants can operate without a fryer?
Many of our loyal customers will remember us as Tony Sacco’s Coal Oven Pizza, but on January 1, 2016 we became Kenna Coal Fired Kitchen. We are excited to announce this name change that will enable us to better serve the Charlotte region, utilizing more local products and ingredients and also provide better opportunities for seasonal specials and promotions tailored to the specific community in which we are located. We will continue to operate under the same management and ownership and will continue to provide the great food, exceptional value and welcoming atmosphere you’ve come to expect. We’ve simply changed names to become South Charlotte’s own coal oven destination.
